Dark Knight vs Titanic

Ok. Have not kept with the self imposed s=cease and desist on the dark knight blogging. But, gave in due to my theory that once it reached 450, 460, Million, 600 was going to happen. It’s currently at 512 Mil Domestic and clicking the headline will lead you to the story on slashfilm that talks about the Re-release strategy (IMax included) that will propel the gross 600ward.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to bring up the stories that have cropped up trivializing TDK's achievements at the box off ice by discussing the gross, but bringing up the 'adjusted for inflation' aspect in which TDK is not even in the Top 40.

Granted the above is true. Obviously, tickets cost more today than they did 70 years ago when Gone with the Wind was packing houses. Which is why I'm in favour of a more real count like the music biz- one which'd count tickets sold (units) as opposed to gross (turnover). But having accepted the ‘gross measurement’, I'd like to point out the following.

No movie has made as much money or simply been as popular or as much a worldwide pop culture phenomenon as TDK since The Titanic. No, not even Spidey, Frodo and Harry Potter.
Secondly, I'd like to point out that the golden road to a mammoth gross is repeat views. You'd agree that today, given so much competition for the entertainment eyeball and piracy, its more difficult to get repeat views in a paid environment like the multiplex, given the rise of technology, DVDs releasing 4 months from Box office, TV broadcasts, and of course, the torrent phenomenon.

So there.
